"I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. ....John 15:5
As a Christian, when I look and consider my individual personal self with all its independent reasoning and feeling, then I immediately look back at the self that came out of Adam; the one who was the original living soul that sinned and who was as yet to experience the completion of God by that tree of eternal Life. Should I focus on my self for too long, then I will start to re-experience all that I have been delivered of and set free from in Jesus Christ. My old nature, together with all of its complete ability for sinning, starts to become my experience once again.
The secret of continual faith is twofold. First of all it is to know that we have been bought at great price by the shedding of the precious blood of Jesus and the death of Christ at the cross; not just our sins mind you, but for us the sinner of those sins and that we now belong to Jesus. We are His property! Secondly, it is to know that we are to abide in Christ by simple faith, which means to stay where God has put us! Because we are born again, we have been born out of the new or second Adam who is Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Never let us neglect this most important fact, we are not on our own anymore! We have God on our side in us! Jesus has risen from the dead to give us His life and to be the sole source of our every need!
Even though, at times, there may appear to be no fruit on the bough and that there appears to be only one set of footprints in the sand...... rest assured that those footprints are His, not yours! - He is now carrying us! Jesus never ever changes! He that has begun a good work in you will complete it! Jesus Himself in us, in the person of His Holy Spirit, is the author and finisher of our Christian life on earth, not us! Even though we lose faith in Him and let Him down continually, and fail Him; He never ever lets us down or fails us, even for a second! He is just and He is faithful to us! He will never ever let us down, neither will He ever forsake us or leave us. We are His property forever and we are being re-formed and transformed to be as alive in Him as He is alive in us. Jesus is not just a resurrected living soul, He is the life giving Spirit!
A branch that separates itself from the vine cannot bear fruit of itself, so is it also for a Christian who ceases to trust and depend upon Jesus. He will lose his love, his joy, his patience and his peace of heart. In such a case the Christian is left with nothing but a mere existence! Therefore, let us abide in Him by simply staying where God has put us. It is God that has put us into Christ - not us! "Now he which establishes us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God." (2 Cor 1:21)
